A must have for Harper Lee and Mockingbird fans if only to add it to your collection of other Mockingbird books just to say you have it. I'm not complaining as this is a nice hardcover set of her only two novels written. However, it is just an ordinary hardcover set and nothing to really write home about. I just had to have it for my Mockingbird collection.

First To Kill A Mockingbird. A wonderful timeless story. To say I love the book is an understatement. The second Go Set A Watchman. My feeling went from not liking the book to in the end feeling it was as good if not better than Mockingbird. Give the book a chance and read to the end. You will learn things about yourself and others.

I really wanted this box set when "Go Set A Watchman" was released. I pre-ordered and was very disappointed when the set arrived. The pages were jagged, like if the pages had been cut with a dull scissors. Not sure if the printers were rushing to fill the demand but the books were such a poor quality I returned them. Disappointed because I never got to read the book but maybe I'll order again sometime.

This novel reads like a poor cousin to Lee's original. I gave it three stars because I enjoy Lee's descriptive narrative. The plot and characterizations are much less dramatic than I anticipated. Watchman is bleaker in tone and drags a bit compared to Mockingbird. Both novels take on a subject that we are still struggling with today and are therefore both relevant. After reading Watchman and rereading Mockingbird as an adult, I am leaning towards the opinion that it was not meant to see the light of day. Watchman is of interest primarily as an academic example of how a novelist can evolve or maybe justs warms to the right subject matter.

I cannot really review this as it will be a gift for my daughter.... but.... being that she does NOT like to read but ASKED for "Go Set A Watchman" (because "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of her favorite books) is kind of a review in itself...

I loved "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a teen and loved it as an adult but the sequel was not anywhere as good . Scout as the voice "Go Set A Watchman", was not believable. I found her shallow and not as interesting. I didn't like the rehash of the county's history as it was explained thoroughly in "Mockingbird", nor the jumping around from one time in history to one that was more current. It was almost as if the publisher said to fill it out, flesh it out and irrelevant information was added. It was boring in parts and hard to get through.

I had never read To Kill a Mockingbird, but always knew I should. So I read both of the books consecutively.
Attics- what a let down. I see your reasoning but it's misguided. But then again, the full story isn't about the injustice of slavery, it's about the discovery of self, a self that is imbued and impacted by the events and beliefs of one's existence.

This was actually my first Kindle which, because of all the hype, I thought I would try. Not having remembered the film, I was very disappointed in both books. Mockingbird seemed very short and Watchman in my opinion, not quite strong enough. For me, not worth the money.

This book has both novels. I enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird despite the old fashioned lingo. I was seriously dissapointed in Go Set a Watchman. After coming across the many inconsistencies between the two books, I did some research. I discovered that Go Set a Watchman was her first book and inspired Mockingbird. Watchman was never meant to be published. After reading it I think it should have remained unpublished. It ruined Mockingbird for me. Such a rambling, boring book. I had to skip through some of the endless conversations with Uncle Jack and with Atticus. Mockingbird is a 4 star book, but Watchman is a 2 at best. I give the combination set 3 stars. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't waste my time on Watchman.

It had been a long time since I read to Kill a Mockingbird. So rereading it gave me a good background for To Set a Watchman. Both books are well written. Controversial? I did not think so. Everything in each story can be put in context of the time the book (era) was written. To Set a Watchman was more thorough with the characters. The reader gets to watch Scout struggle with her ideals and how she resolves them.

This was one I was afraid to read, being that "To Kill A Mocking Bird" was the one singular book that turned me into a avid book reader over 35 years ago. As I finished this story this morning I can honestly say there is no other ending this story could end with! We have to remember this is how people felt and feared in this era. I recommend who ever lost themselves in 6th grade reading To Kill A Mocking Bird, take the time to read Go Set A Watchman!

Today's political correctness and social veneer of polite language are stripped away as Lee immerses us in the conversations of the time.
